This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend a Title I public school in a diverse community. Our school is one of seven high schools in our city and has a student population of roughly two thousand children.
My students deserve a well-stocked art classroom and a variety of materials to better explore their world and learn about life through the arts!
As a one hundred percent free lunch district, resources are always extremely limited. My yearly budget is two dollars per student which makes it very difficult to provide students with interesting, engaging, and creative projects.
Multiple times over the year, I purchase supplies out of my own pocket to provide students with new experiences, but these projects would help me to reach all students. Just this year alone, I hosted a gallery walk where the artwork of over 500 students was on display. Artists from all walks of life were represented and showcased.
My students are creative and love to learn about art through the exploration of materials. They love hands-on, active, and engaging projects. Truly, they are my inspiration. The relationship we create and maintain is one of the main reasons I continue to give my all in an inner-city school!
My Project
With the uneasiness of the future of the school year, one thing I know for certain is I can help a bit by making my own classroom safer for students. I work in a high school that is extremely old and I have concerns about the safety of the air quality.
The HEPA air purifier will enhance my students' safety in the classroom.
This HEPA air purifier will help cleanse the air my students breathe on a day to day basis. My students are anxious to return to school as much as they are excited to return to the bit of normalcy they have.
I care greatly for the safety of my students and my entire school community. Any step I can take to help this endeavor of returning to school for my students be as seamless as possible is worth taking.
