I am an international teacher from the UK and my students love finding out things about my culture and I enjoy telling them. Although our cultures are not very different my class gets so much excitement out of finding things that are not the same. This mainly focuses on words but we find other things. A thing that is different for me is the amount of classes that use flexible seating and the positive results. Before moving here this was something I had not seen before and I am so interested in the great learning environment it brings to the class.
Within my class I have some children that lose focus quickly and are always wanting to know the next thing like many 7-8 year olds do.
They are a great class with a happy inquisitive nature and deserve to have the best learning environment.
My Project
My goal is to use flexible seating to transform my classroom into a positive environment where students feel safe, engaged, comfortable, eager and excited to learn and succeed together all year long. Being an international teacher is an exciting opportunity for my students to be part of but I also want them to feel comfortable and relaxed in the classroom. I am asking for camp chairs, lap desks, stools, floor cushions and ball chairs.
With the adventures we will be going on, exploring other countries and cultures, I want my students to feel the comfort of home.
Most adults don't enjoy spending 8 hours at a desk, so it is crazy to expect 7-8 year old students to enjoy that! I'm hoping for these resources to provide my students with flexible seating options for them to make choices, explore and discover their best learning styles, take control of their learning and find a love for learning. Student choice and flexible seating options are exciting for all students and meet the needs of students who wish to stand, lie down, spread out, sit on the floor or pillows, or sit on stools of different sizes.
