This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine moving to a new country. You walk into a classroom and you may not have ever had any formal education before. You have never read or written and you have this smiling teacher talking to you in a language you don't understand. These are the students I teach every day.
Being a kindergarten teacher, you quickly realize that many of your students are in school for the first time!
We take for granted all the things they need to learn (letters, numbers, how to write a number, and how to write their names). More supplies, in all aspects of learning, would definitely help my class learn and help with their foundation that is so crucial to the rest of their school careers. I love that my students learn so much in K and they are excited to learn how to read. Everything is new to them and it’s so rewarding.
My Project
Students begin K learning how to read and make there way to reading to learn. These materials will help them learn to read so they can eventually read to learn. This will work in small reading groups as well as individual activities during a time where kids need to socially distance themselves. Please help me receive the word building blocks, magnets, and nameplates so we can make learning how to read fun for my students in kindergarten. These fun activities will encourage reading and reinforce the phonics aspect of reading so they will walk away with the skills needed in order to learn how to read. They will be used in small groups or as an individual activity.
