My Project
I am a first-grade teacher at a small Title 1 school. Our school qualifies for all students to receive free breakfast and lunch. 86% of my students last year took advantage of this program every day, two meals a day. Our community is very low socioeconomically. My student's families are usually not able to purchase the requested school supply list. Our school purchased a cubby shelf for students to hold their materials, but our classrooms do not have any cubbies for students to put their materials in. That is what we will use the purple and teal cubbies for. The listening center materials will be used to create a listening center. Someone from our community donated us a set of books and their audio cds/cassettes, but we have no way to listen to them. The folders will be used both in the classroom and at home as take-home folders and fix-it and finish folders. The sit spots and other management items are so that students know where to sit/go for class meetings and other learning activities. The stars are for our "GoNoodle" breaks that we take frequently. The laminator will be used to help me laminate both SEL and academic center activities for students to use so that they are more durable as my first graders can be a little rough and tumble. The calming corner posters and fidgets are so that I can set up a place for my students to calm themselves and regroup when school and life become too overwhelming. All of these items will help us to focus more on our SEL and academic lessons and less on the environment. They will all be used to help me focus on each student individually and support their needs.
