Helping With Headphones

My Project

My 18 first graders are a special bunch. They are growing weekly in their abilities to read and write and watching this happen has been magical. Donors Choose has allowed me to provide them with a gorgeous carpet on which to have our lessons and sharing times and with literature at their reading level which is engaging and by authors they crave. I am so grateful that this amazing vehicle has made reading such an amazing experience for them. They love their books and their read alouds because of the kindness of this community. One special time of their day is reading workplaces. During this time they are gaining independence and are now self-selecting where they visit to complete reading activities that build sight word retention and CVC word building.

With this campaign, I'm hoping to add to my classroom workplace choices by providing my first graders with what they need to independently use our 6 classroom chromebooks.

Currently, we have the ability to log on to Epic books and Razkids. This is mainly done at home since working on these in the room often requires volume and that breaks the concentration of other children completing alternative activities. Both are wonderful applications where the children can build decoding and comprehension skills with quality text. With this campaign I am hoping to provide them what is needed so that all of them have the ability to use these programs in the classroom while others complete their own independent work.
