My Project

Teaching is indeed a calling! Music making is wonderful skill to have as one develops into a life long-learner. I have been teaching for 30 years and I have had the most amazing time teaching young people from Pre-K to 12th grade! My school is a great place, serving amazing kids. However, like most schools we could definitely use the headphones to assist in using digital music making apps for music technology while learning traditional musical skills by learning to play the Recorder.

As a middle school band director, the joy of teaching and sharing music with young people is extremely rewarding.

The band is growing and we need instruments. At my school about 90% of the students use school-owned instruments. This is due to the fact that most of the families we serve cannot afford to purchase or have the credit to do the rental programs at the local music stores. With our band program growing we need to increase our inventory to make sure our students will have what they need to explore their musical gifts. Instruments can be expensive to purchase and sometimes just as much to repair. So, it is important to keep one's inventory ready so students don't have to go without.

The students I serve come from various backgrounds. Band is the great equalizer because in band, ones' background doesn't determine their music making abilities. Some of my students face issues and situations that are at times, unimaginable. It is band and music classes that gives these students an opportunity to focus on something they love and not something they just don't understand. Outside of my mother and father, the greatest influences in my life have been teachers, especially music and band directors. Now, it is my turn!
