Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My student Council kids have come up with an amazing project. They are conducting a school wide community service event which will help the Los Angeles Mission. The Mission provides beds a shower and food for a huge part of the homeless population in Los Angeles. The mission is always in need of personally hygiene items.

This is the first year in long time that my school has a student council, and the students are doing an amazing job, even though they don't have an example to follow.

One of their newest endeavors is to collect items like travel size, toothpaste and toothbrushes, lotions, shampoos, combs and cleaning wipes. The students are campaigning to the entire student body to donate these items. They have already collect a decent amount of items and need the requested times to complete some packages.

The students will make personal hygiene care packages with the ziplock bags and then the council advisors will deliver the packages to the mission on behalf of the school student council.

My students live in a rough, area of Los Angeles, many of them are in need of help and support for food and other necessities themselves. The fact that they are organizing this event and want to help others is very touching.

If they are able to receive these items, they will feel a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment to know they are helping those in need. They are also setting a good example for future council members. These items will help them spread love, compassion, generosity and leadership.
