My Students
As a teacher, I am lucky to serve special needs to gifted fifth grade students in Arizona. We are a Title I community, serving students who are financially struggling, but also students whose parents see our school as a real-world learning environment. The community is as diverse as the needs of our world today.
Our students engage in multidisciplinary projects in teams to collect data, synthesize, design, build and rebuild, all while learning the key learning standards for fifth grade.
I work on a team of three to develop lessons and facilitate learning for students in our STEAM Design Academy. We are teaching our students to be college and career ready, starting at preschool. We're not training them for sixth grade. We're training them for life as scholars and future professionals. We even call them scholars and professionals. The more you hear it, the more you believe it. The more you believe it, the more you believe in yourself and act the part. Passion leads to success.
My Project
The students in my classroom come from a variety of needs. I have levels of special needs all the way through gifted.
One thing all of my students have in common is that they learn very differently and need tools to help them concentrate and do their very best job.
Providing students with adaptations to their personal learning environments within our own classroom habitat, like wobble disks for their chairs or at the standing desks and fidget bands on their seats will only improve their comfort.
Currently, we have 8 wobble discs in my classroom and they are a hot commodity. My students have expressed an interest to expand this to all students so everyone can adapt their personal learning space. I'm just a teacher trying to fulfill their requests!
