This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students absolutely love learning. They walk into the classroom every day eager to dive into a new lesson. They always begin each day striving to do better than the last. They are constantly asking if they can read longer and do more work. Additionally, my students’ parents are extremely supportive and hardworking. They truly want the best for their kids and use our school as a resource.

I teach Special Education in a resource room with amazing students who come from a low-income neighborhood in Chicago where 98% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.

Unfortunately, our school cannot meet all of their needs as we do not have the funding to buy the supplies to help them.

My Project

My students are deeply invested in learning more about STEM. They are kinesthetic learners so they learn best when they are able to physically manipulate things and observe what happens. We are currently learning about magnetism and force (push/pull) in our science class, money in our math class, and segmenting in our reading class.

Your generous donations will provide my students with the opportunity to get real hands on experience with STEM, which will not only help them understand these concepts more, but will also provide them with more life skills that they will be able to use later in life.

The magnetic creation station will allow my students to be able to better understand magnetism by providing them with the chance to manipulate magnets in order to create an object. The engineer-a-coaster kit will enable my students to see through trial and error how speed and momentum, force and motion, angles and trajectories affects whether ot not the disk rolls and falls from the tracks to the goal box. The cash register will provide my students with meaningful experience as it will teach them what to do in a store and how they should be responsible with their money. The sound it out stretchers will be a visual that will help my students see how they should be segmenting tricky words.
