My name is Gerardo Salinas, Library/Humanities Coordinator First of all thank you for the help. Here at Pershing we have a great staff, unfortunately the resources for helping students with a Bilingual background are very limited due the fact the Hispanic/Latino population is very low. Therefore, I would like to apply for a Donors Choose grant to help these students. I would like to buy resources for the students in the Third grade or all grade levels k-3. In other words buy books for the classroom libraries, which would help these students with reading material and aid them in understanding the English language better. I would buy books for these students that would really improve their English vocabulary significantly. These books would be in both English and Spanish. In other words, Bilingual resources for my students. I am trilingual, and I help the Hispanic students when I can. But, in reality when I am not there in the classroom these students do get left behind. The Teachers do not speak Spanish, and there are no way in providing more help for these students. Therefore, I truly believe that by aiding these students with at least a little more understand of the English language through literacy, it would really help everyone. The classroom teachers, the students, and the school, and future Hispanic Bilingual students. Thank you for your time, and hope to hear from you soon.
