My students need 35 Reader's Notebooks in order to respond to me about their independent reading.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Webb's classroom raised $296
This project is fully funded
Each week my students write a letter to me about the book they are reading, and I write a letter back to them. It is a wonderful dialogue about literature. It allows me to keep up to date with their reading, and give them advice on new books and types of literature they should try.
I would like to improve upon this practice, and purchase Reader's Notebooks for each of my students. Reader's Notebooks will allow my students to organize all of our reading activities in one notebook. Organization is a skill that fifth grade students are still mastering. Reader's Notebooks come complete with a section for weekly letters, notes for book clubs, a section for students to organize lists of books they have read, and books they want to read in the future. In addition Reader's Notebooks assist me in keeping up with the various genres my students have read, so that I can encourage them to explore new genres as well. The Reader's Notebook is truly a wonderful tool.
I teach reading, and writing to 32 fifth grade students at an urban school. Reader's Notebooks cost more than regular composition books, and are not sold at regular school supply stores. If I listed them on my school supply list, the majority of my students would not come to school with them. Through funding this grant, you will allow me to provide my students with an organizational tool that will assist them with their daily reading routine.
Reader's Notebooks will allow all of my students to have a record of their year through reading and writing. I hope you will consider funding this request.
