Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The isolation associated with COVID-19 caused various emotional feelings among my students. Some of them express fear of never seeing each other again or ever returning to school. I always encourage them to keep the faith and a positive attitude.
My students are vibrant second graders who enjoy learning and sharing life’s experiences.
Currently, my students use laptops or tablets to participate in distant learning. Some of them borrowed laptops from the school district to complete online assignments. Others complete weekly paper packets. We have daily Zoom Meetings. Every day I find ways to keep them engaged in learning. They ask questions and seem willing to learn new things. They are concerned that they will not be ready for the upcoming school year. Parents are expressing concerns for extended learning over the summer.
My Project
The COVID-19 outbreak revealed the importance of the use of an electronic device in students’ homes. Several students experienced delayed instruction as a result of not having a device. The donation of Samsung Tablets will provide students who are currently without electronic devices access to the various websites our school district uses for distance learning. Over the summer, this can be an essential interaction to maximize learning outcomes, improve or maintain their reading level, and motivate them to research information through the Educational Virtual Library.
The Samsung Tablet will provide students who do not have an electronic device, an opportunity to continue reading books on Myon.com, view educational videos on Brain Pop, and other online educational websites over the summer.
