My students need 6 manipulatives to explore and develop mathematical concepts.

My Students
Okay I have to admit I am someone who has to touch and feel everything I pass in a store. Can you imagine sitting in a math class and someone handing you a bucket of 3-D foldable shapes or colorful algebra tiles? That would keep almost anyone interested and eager to learn.
My students are hard working, smart, and talented.
My students are our future professionals in this world. They have a lot of aspirations and need to satisfy their curiosity. They love to figure out the how's and why's of mathematics. Hands on activities are their favorite.
My Project
I am requesting foldable 3D shapes for our geometry unit. Students will be able to explore the number of faces and bases on each shape. They will also discover the formulas for surface area and volume. I also am requesting algebra tiles for the overhead with a teaching booklet. Students that have used algebra tiles last year were successful in our polynomial unit so this year I would like to add additional ideas to the unit and show them on the over head. Another book I am requesting is writing about math. This is an important skill students must master to pass the NYS exams. Students will also benefit from the bucket of dice in our probability unit and parallel lines and transversal game. Lastly, I am requesting a large timer so students can gauge their time when working with manipulative's.
Math should be fun and exciting!
Working with manipulative's gives students a chance to explore and justify mathematical concepts for themselves without depending on the teacher to say "This is the formula now use it." It will help students to develop critical thinking skills which is something each student must possess to advance in mathematics.
