Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Our school currently has a paper recycling program. While this is a great start, the amount of plastic, glass, and aluminum from beverages that our students produce daily is staggering. We currently do not have a recycling program for beverage containers. I am asking for four recycling bins to help jump start the initiative in our building. A small group of students who want to make a difference in our school and our world will be spearheading the initiative among their peers.

This generation must learn to reduce, reuse, and recycle to help heal our planet.

Having bins for recycling bottles and cans located in two key locations in the building will allow students to make the choice to recycle their trash. In addition, a lot of bottles are disposed of during sports games and other school activities. I am asking for collapsible bins that can be easily transported to games and activities.

It is my hope, that this small seed of recycling will grow into a larger initiative on campus for more recycling opportunities. It is our hope that teachers will begin a recycling bin in their own classroom and bring their bottles and cans to a central location to be recycled. Paper recycling will continue with added signage and encouragement. Battery, maker, and electronics recycling will also be encouraged to the staff and students with hand made collection bins in the Library.
