Mrs. Kaufman from Atlanta GA is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need books, especially books that encourage my BOYS to read. Based on student response, my cart is full of books about sports, animals, superheroes and adventure.

Before our Charter School was created, there were no charter school options that were located within the 30318 zip code. Significantly, there currently exists a tremendous disparity in racial and socio-economic characteristics between neighborhoods and schools in the north (Buckhead) and south (Bankhead) portions of our zip code, a disparity exasperated by the gap in test scores for these schools and the fact that enrollment is climbing on one side of this divide and falling on the other.
We believe our school now offers a meaningful option for parents in our area, enabled by waiver freedom from existing school zoning so that we can participate in bringing the students in these diverse neighborhoods together."
This year I have a majority boy classroom, with a large number of them who love math, but aren't very excited about reading.
I am ready to get them confident in their reading and truly loving books, and I would love for my classroom to be ready as well!
I have asked my students what they loved, and researched engaging books based on their various reading levels.
I also picked out a few items for incentives when they stick with it when it is hard, a book shelf and a few classroom tools that will enable them to be seven year old boys in my classroom (active, yet engaged!)
Books will not only engage students to help master necessary standards, but create life-long readers, who through reading can begin to better empathize with one another and travel the world through pages.
Thank you so much for considering to help create a class that loves to read.
