My students need a functioning listening center and basic English support resources to give them a jump start in learning English.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever seen a kindergarten classroom without a listening center? Well, many exist but you can make it one less! Help us make our independent learning time fun and beneficial.
The students in my Kindergarten class already come from limited resources in their homes.
Many of their memorable experiences occur at school. These students come to us with no or very limited English and need constant scaffolding and support throughout the day.
The school itself is small thus smaller budget allocations for needed support. Our class is a full day Kindergarten class with only one hour with a Teaching Assistant; including lunch. No other outside support is available. Due to budget cuts we no longer have access to the school library, music, art, or a computer teacher. I prefer teaching the smaller students in small groups so a good, established independent work time routine is necessary and a listening center would help a great deal.
My Project
The listening center will be one of many components needed to establish a good English foundation. At this age, interactive learning is the most effective and the listening center along with the Language resource kit are steps in the right direction. In addition to the lack of English, about half the struggling students did not attend preschool. I am trying to make a variety of support materials available to make their transitions easier. I do believe the earlier we fully immerse them in language, improves their chances of later success in school.
Please support this project.
The donation alone will excite my students, but the results they will see from being exposed to English is even greater. I was an English Language Learner and I know first hand the impact it makes to be immersed with correct English usage in Kindergarten. It made all the difference!
