This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am blessed with the opportunity to teach 20 remarkable students. Every single kid contributes a different type of energy and gift to our community, together creating a beautiful mosaic of brilliance.

The knowledge, languages, and cultural diversity they bring into the classroom creates a dynamic learning environment.

They are a family of scientists, writers, readers, mathematicians, historians, artists, dancers, activists, and innovators. Please help me give my students what they need!

My Project

My students are brilliant mathematicians. However, because of distance learning, there are apparent learning gaps that we need to fill. Specifically, my students need a concrete representation of larger numbers in order to understand place value concepts. These place value rods will help them not only see numbers as digits but as quantities. For example, instead of seeing 125, they will see the numbers as a hundred, two tens, and five ones.

These place value rods will give my students an opportunity to learn through a hands-on method that will both increase engagement and mathematical understanding.
