The school in which I teach is in a high poverty, rural district.
My students come to school excited to see their friends and teachers and are ready to learn despite not having the easiest lives outside of school.
Their optimism and eagerness, make them incredibly special to me and the rest of our school community.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and are at differing ability levels, but what they share is a sense of pride for their school, a love of fun and engaging learning, and lots of energy. Allowing them to "explore" new places, "meet" new people, and learn to empathize through the books we read is a very exciting and rewarding process for me.
My Project
Part of teaching students to be 21st century learners is teaching them to use technology in a meaningful way. This means that students need to use headphones to watch tutorial videos, complete web quests, play online learning games, complete online assessments, and much more.
Many of my students come to school without headphones or they get lost or broken throughout the year.
This makes using technology difficult for them and leaves them at a disadvantage to their peers. I would like to try to close this gap by providing a class set of headphones to my students for them to use whenever they are in my classroom. Having these readily available for students will solve a lot of problems and allow them to engage with technology in a relevant way.
