My Project

I work at an after-school program at my school, where the students come to have a safe place and meal after school hours. Besides offering this safe place, we would like to focus on helping our students find and build a passion for a hobby. We are trying to expose our kids to different crafts, and one hobby that the children have shown an interest in is crocheting. A second purpose for this project is outreach... trying to reach those who need mittens or scarves to keep warm this winter!

We would like to have our students provide outreach for our other community members who need to keep warm this winter!

Making hats and scarves and maybe mittens will teach our students a skill that will help them give back! I hope that the yarn in this project will help our students find a passion that they will carry with them forever. In addition, crocheting mittens and scarves for those in need will help others stay warm this winter!

They will also learn persistence because, like with all hobbies, you need to practice and sometimes fail before you can be successful. I hope to write more projects like this in the future to help our students connect with the arts and the community!
