Helping Hands for KinderQuill Writing Heroes

My Project

We believe that small hearts can significantly impact our kindergarten classroom. This project is designed to help our young learners understand the value of kindness, generosity, and community support through creative storytelling and art. Using the KinderQuill writing framework, students will imagine themselves as superheroes who help classrooms get the necessary supplies, just like the generous donors who support schools through DonorsChoose.

What We Need:

We are requesting basic classroom materials such as copy paper, pencils, pens, and notebook paper to help students create their “Classroom Hero” stories. These resources will allow each child to draw, write, and compile their work into a book that showcases their understanding of giving and helping others. The dry-erase markers and clipboards will help us practice our writing more efficiently and save time and space during reading. The laminator will help me preserve this book and any special projects they create for many years.

Why This Project Matters:

Many of our students are just beginning to learn how to express their thoughts through words and drawings. This project allows them to connect literacy skills with social-emotional learning. By imagining themselves as helpers and heroes, students begin to see how their actions and others can make a real difference in their community.

Even more powerfully, students will learn about the DonorsChoose platform and the real people who support their education. They’ll gain an early appreciation for generosity, empathy, and the power of collective kindness through class discussions and thank-you activities.

The Impact:

At the end of the project, each student will have created a short story and illustration about how they would help their classroom. These will be compiled into a class book, which we will share with our donors and classroom families.
