This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work as a middle school counselor at The School of Holistic and Academic Wellness (SHAW Academy) at Audrey W. Clark, a Public School in Long Branch, NJ that serves students from grades 1-12. Our students come to our program with needs that are better met in a smaller, more alternative school setting. They come from various diverse backgrounds, but most of them receive free or reduced-priced lunch. With this being said, we as a school staff, often provide our students with basic needs such as food, clothing, hygiene products, etc. so that they can focus on their academics and take the correct steps towards their academic and personal goals. The SHAW Academy at AWC is a special place where staff work hard everyday to empower and guide our students. Oftentimes our students come to school hungry because they do not have food at home, not dressed in proper uniform because they cannot afford it or do not have clean clothes and may not even have basic school supplies. Your donation will help contribute to two of my school teams projects, our "Uniform Leading Library" and our "Snack Shack". According to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, students will perform better in school when they have their basic needs met. Our "Uniform Leading Library" and our "Snack Shack" allow students to have their basic needs met while they are in school. They are able to be in proper uniform while staff assists with washing cloth in our building and making sure that each students has am option to eat that day.
