I teach first grade at Woodlake Elementary School in Mandeville, LA. This year has been quite difficult on our school. After being out for a month due to Katrina I came back to meet several new students. We have 24 students in our class. We are working very hard on becoming confident readers. We are getting ready to learn how to infer from text while we are reading. When we infer, we are using prior knowledge and textural clues to draw conclusions.
To help both me and my students to do this I could use some resources. I borrowed a friends copy of Debbie Miller's "Reading with Meaning" book. In this book there are many wonderful lessons in which I can teach inferring to my students. I would love to have a copy of this book for myself, as well as the books she suggests to use while teaching these lessons.
I would use the books to teach my whole class.
