Have you ever left somewhere with a desire to know more, that is my goal for my students everyday. Our school is rural, and has an enrollment of about 250 students in the high school. I teach three different classes, Biology I, Biology II, and Environmental Science. I have students is grades 9-12 intermixed in my classes. I have about 110 different students in an average year. Of those students, about 15 go on to our Dual Credit College Biology class and do very well. We are a low-income school district in Missouri, having 50-60% of our students on free and reduced lunch. I feel it is important to make the education these students get the best possible, so I do a lot of hands-on projects and real life applications in my classroom.

Environmental Science is a very valuable class, if you can actually get the students involved and make it a reality. So often we discuss the earth cycles and gases that are present, but it does not make the connection to real world because they can not visualize gases.

This equipment and Pasport probe technology allows the students to take actual readings of gases present, pressures, dewpoints, temperatures, and much more that will help make these connections. We need to take care of our environment, but without truly understanding the concepts, it is hard to get people serious about taking action.

The different skills the students will learn from this equipment is immense. They will learn data analysis, taking accurate reading with appropriate units, problem solving skills, research skills, and much more along with the basic concepts being studied. These skills are what our students need to be prepared for college taking the ACT, and to become lifelong learners.
