Helping Children Cope Through Literature

My students need 9 books that will encourage coping skills for many of life's difficult experiences.

My Students

Adults have a hard enough time dealing with tragedy and tough situations. Children do not have the life experiences that can help them cope. These books help our children to see they are not alone, they can find ways to cope, and things can get better.

My students are a wonderful diverse group of over 900!

We are a Title 1 school that serves children from preschool to 2nd grade. We have many Military children, special needs children, children of poverty, and so many children struggling to learn while dealing with emotional and social issues.

My Project

The resources I am requesting for our students are a variety of books that will help our children through literature. Students will have the opportunity to read these beautifully illustrated books to see that they can seek help, they can make good choices on their own, and they have lots of loving people to support them.

These books help children to find coping strategies for difficult situations such as death, incarcerated parents, illness, bullying, moving, and social skills issues.

It also helps these little ones to see that they are not the only ones dealing with these difficult topics. We want to be able to help our children deal with their basic need to feel safe and loved so that they will have the ability to do theirvery best in the classroom and in life.
