This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

It is becoming a common occurrence to hear on the nightly news how youth of today do not get enough exercise and are becoming overweight. The students in my class are no different then the millions of other children in the United States who do not have enough fine and gross motor activities in their schedules at school. I am asking for play equipment from Lakeshore for my classroom so that my children can become familiarized with using different types of apparatus in order to enhance their motor skills. The equipment would serve three different purposes within my program. The children will have access to the physical education items during their occupational therapy (OT) session, their adaptive physical education (APE) time, and when we are on a rainy day schedule where the students are unable to go outside and play. In order to have a variety of activities for the children to experience, I am hoping to receive hopping sacks, a parachute (with activity kit), and a tunnel to enhance their gross motor functions; two streamer sets and a fling and fly bean bag set in order to integrate their fine motor skills into the curriculum. I am a Special Education teacher. My program, a special day class, is for children who are in the K-2 grade levels. Typically my program has thirteen students who have speech and language deficits. I work at a program improvement school where over 50% of the children come for low economic backgrounds and English is their second language. Currently, half of my students are homeless and do not always have opportunities to go outside and play. This year I have six students who also need extra help in their fine and gross motor skills. Therefore, any extra activities they can do within my program can make a world of difference for them. Once I have received the items, I will use them to help the children exercise in a fun and exciting way. Currently, my school does not have a large playground apparatus, and other play items are limited due to funding. The play equipment from Lakeshore will not only get the children �moving� but it will also help strengthen the childrens' fine and gross motor skills.
