Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In addition to being a brilliant group of kids, my students are bursting with creativity. Help us find ways to harness today’s technology in ways that would allow all of my students to conduct research and express what they have learned in their own unique way!
My students have limited resources, but possess unlimited potential.
Almost all of my students qualify for and receive free lunch. However, in our classroom this is not what defines them. My students are all unique and brilliant, every one in their own way. Each has their own distinctive way of understanding and expressing what they learn. Our school is filled with amazing artists, fantastic writers, talented mathematicians, brilliant scientists and wonderful storytellers. As a teacher, I want to provide as many opportunities for my students to utilize today’s technology as a tool to assist them in their learning.
My Project
My students know how to work around, toggle, and deal with the quirks of computers that are older than them. They also know how to work collaboratively on Google Classroom assignments and tasks. They have the know how, they just lack the tools to help them build upon their knowledge.
My students will use their Chromebooks to work collaboratively on Google Classroom assignments and create STEM projects using their coding skills from sites such as Scratch.
The students in my class will be able to collaborate on writing assignments by critiquing and commenting on each other's writing pieces. They will also be able to create group projects using Google Slides. In addition to the students in my class, these Chromebooks will also allow the students in our after school STEM club to use sites such as Scratch.com and code.org to create and design coding projects. If my students are able to receive these Chromebooks, all of this will be possible without the frustration of having to work with outdated computers that constantly fail at even the simplest task.
