Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are lively third graders, excited to learn about the world and make a difference. They come from diverse backgrounds, and bring a lot to the table each day.
In our classroom, my students love to use technology to help them learn about interesting topics and to present their information to others.
Last month, they read about the health and environmental benefits of eating bugs and wrote persuasive essays and google slides presentations to convince others to try a cricket cookie.
My students are also proactive in their learning. They take steps to ensure they are accountable and able to learn. If the classroom is too noisy, they will go grab a pair of headphones to help them focus (another benefit of classroom headphones!)
My Project
With the increase of technology used in the classroom and required for state testing, good headphones play a game-changing role in the classroom. We use headphones for reading, writing, speaking, vocabulary, math and science lessons daily.
One of the dynamic benefits of these headphones is that they come with a speaker on them: so my ELL students are able to practice speaking into them (recording their speaking on their chromebook) and then listen to it back.
We do not have any of these headphones in my classroom right now. In addition, the school doesn't provide any headphones for students. Last month we were taking a state test and ran out of headphones for students to use; I couldn't fathom that.
As stated above, headphones also play an integral role in helping my students take action for their own learning. They will grab headphones to cancel out noise when it is too loud. Furthermore, they will use headphones to avoid distractions and focus on their task at hand.
As you can see, the purchase of these headphones will play an important role in my classroom this year, and for years to come.
