This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is part of a charter system created after Hurricane Katrina. At this point, we are one of the few schools still housed in portable trailers. Unfortunately, our building is not in the best condition to cultivate young minds, but we firmly impress upon our students that they can still soar and be awesome scholars and community members.
The majority of our student population is at or below the poverty level.
We also have a large English-Language-Learner population (both Vietnamese and Spanish). Our students are truly resilient and demonstrate integrity, humbleness, and gratitude daily among such a diverse student body.
My Project
My class is comprised of both "in person" students, which are the kids that learn inside the classroom and "virtual" students, which are the kids that stay home and log into Google Meet at their house. We all are on the same Google Meet the entire day, but the students in the classroom experience the worst feedback and echoing because we do not have headphones.
Granting our class a set of headphones will make the learning experience seamless, without having to deal with distractions, such as speaker feedback and echoing.
