My Students

"You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves"..Abraham Lincoln. I've used this quote because in my classroom I teach my students to inquire about information on their own instead of just asking for the answers. A laptop will inspire exploration.

We are a Title 1 school on level 3, meaning that if our children do not pass over a certain score level on the Connecticut Mastery Testing, the state will take over and many teachers' jobs will be at stake.

Our students want us to give them the answers instead of using scientific inquiry and finding information out for themselves through the use of books and computer technology. I had an old laptop of mine that I allowed the students to use in class while working and noticed that the students began to find information out themselves, allowing more time for the students to engage in creativity. This also freed up time for me to check and monitor their projects and lab reports. Unfortunately, my laptop that was ten years old finally stopped working, and it was too slow processing information in the first place. I love my students and want them to succeed not only in school, but in life...to follow their dreams and be capable of learning on their own.

My Project

Like Abraham Lincoln says in the quote above, we need to teach our children to do for themselves and stop thinking everyone will do it for them. My inner city children come from broken homes, abuse, neglect, etc. in some cases which makes it difficult for the teachers to guide them in the right direction. Through my efforts in Science technology, my students' Connecticut Mastery levels rose 18% last year which was a significant jump from the year before, and I know it's because I hold the students accountable for their work, inquiry, and exploration. I guide them to the answers, yet I do not give them the answers. If you are generous enough to donate a laptop to my students I know I can increase their Science score levels and you will be a huge part of making a difference in the inner city students' lives.

As I've explained, if you want to be a part of changing the shape of my students' lives and helping them achieve success on their own, and by guiding them to becoming creative, knowledgeable and imaginative, please provide us with the help my students need.

My students through Science become successful by understanding technology, and I have sent more students in this inner city to the Aquaculture School than any other teacher, which is shaping our children to be involved in the Sciences.
