Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are in south Texas at a public elementary school of about 850 students PK-5. We are located in a coastal town, which has chemical plants and fishing industries. We have many migrant families due to lots of agriculture in our area, and contract work at the plants. Over 70% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. As a result, many of them have had no exposure to a variety of life experiences, which would increase their knowledge. Our community includes a diverse group of cultures. We have Burmese refugee children, other Asian children whose parents work at the plants, African American, Hispanic and white students. The students are very eager to learn and, for the most part, the parents want what is best for their child, no matter what. They may have limited income but they still try to help do whatever they can for their children. These students may be low income - but are eager learners who deserve the best education I can give them.
My Project
Headphones are an essential part of our classroom. From our Literacy Stations to our use of computers, we are forever utilizing headphones.
Since use of headphones in our classroom is a daily activity, it is vital we have good quality headphones.
Right now, that is not the case. We have cheap headphones that I have purchased at Wal-Mart. These headphones have wires and the kiddos constantly twist the wires while they are working. (That is just what kids do,) Needless to say, the headphones don't last long, and I'm back to the store.
We need these wireless headphones for our 4 student computers, as well as our Listening Literacy Station. This would save time and money,. In addition, the headphones would more user-friendly.
