This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you imagine how frustrating it is trying to learn about current events from an outdated book that was published in the last century? That is what my class goes through on a daily basis. We are out of touch with the world as it is today.
My students are creative, imaginative, and love to learn about the world around them.
Our school is located in a low income community and was built in 1931. It is an older building and has very limited resources! The computers in our classroom are very old and are unable to access the Internet or use many of the new educational software programs available.
My Project
With a new laptop, I will be able to help my students learn in a more fun, interactive, and engaging way. We will be able to access information instantly. For example, as we discuss the life and impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I will be able to show clips of his famous speech. We can look at pictures of the rainforest, the Sistine Chapel, and so many other things that they might never be exposed to in their daily life. With a laptop, I can access new software programs that emphasize different skills, such as learning their multiplication facts. My students will be able to research on their own, create presentations that are creative, and share them with the world.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words.
Having access to current technology will help my students have a more realistic and up to date picture of the world and learn to understand their role in it. My students will gain a broader perspective and a deeper understanding through the use of up to date technology.
