This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in a Title 1 school in West Harlem. My classroom is rich with diverse interests and personalities! My students are active. They love to work as a team playing soccer, swimming, basketball, and football. Many have strong leadership skills and want to help others as coaches when they grow up. Some of my students are truly artistic. They are aspiring actors, singers, and artists. Some dream of entering into science careers. They love learning about science through hands-on projects and books.
My Project
My fourth graders need high interest book series that will motivate them to read! We need books that struggling readers will pick up and not want to put down. I am asking for book series that appeal to 8 and 9-year-olds like Geronimo Stilton, A-Z Mysteries, and My Weird School. These series will motivate reluctant and struggling readers. As they fall in love with their relatable characters and exciting and funny plot lines, they will naturally read more and more. I can easily teach comprehension strategies when kids are engaged and excited to discuss their books. The work becomes fun when the content is interesting!
