Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Math means so much more than just solving equations or multiplying numbers! My students learn how to apply mathematical concepts through innovative projects and presentations. These powerful activities train my students to become leaders by thinking critically and creatively about problems.
If they have nothing else, my students have limitless energy, passion, and imagination.
We attend a small, majority Latino middle school. We are incredibly fortunate that our school provides a safe environment for our kids to learn.
Aside from loving video games, sports, music and other interests typical of young teenagers, they are very dedicated to their education and have high ambitions for their futures. They are acutely aware of the social skills that plague the families and neighborhoods in which they live and are driven by an intense desire to improve not only their lives but the lives of those in their community.
My Project
Despite their exuberance, our lack of basic supplies(tape, pens, tagboard, and etc) and resources is a road block to their learning and success. These necessary supplies will give us the batteries we need to power our graphing calculators (40 calculators x 4 AAA batteries = 160 batteries). These supplies will help them staple assignments together and stay organized. These supplies will give them tools to assemble models and manipulatives. They will be able to put together presentations that will build their self-esteem, communication, and leadership skills. They will build innovative projects that push the limits of their problem solving abilities and their creativity.
These needed supplies will give my students the opportunity to experience learning in fun, engaging, and informative ways through hands-on activities, leadership opportunities, and so much more!
