Hello!
I am a teacher of 20 of the most fabulous third graders in California! My students are so remarkable, especially because they have a LOVE for school and learning, despite their many challenges. You see, we are at a school with a population of 70% English Language Learners, and as of this year, 100% of them receive free lunch. In addition, they face many challenges living in a poverty stricken and sometimes dangerous urban area. But that does not stop them from coming to school each day with smiles on their faces ready to learn.
My class and I are terribly in need of a set of classroom library books. My students stick by the motto "We read to learn", but our classroom library lacks in fun and exciting books at their reading level. Due to extreme budget cuts, our school does not have the funds to purchase new books. Unfortunately the parents are not in the position to help either. So, I am asking for help in purchasing books to add to my classroom library. Specifically, I would like to get books related to holidays, self-esteem, and different cultures, as well as books that can be integrated into other subject areas like math, science, and social studies.
