This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This coming school year I will be the new art teacher at the Columbus City Preparatory School for Boys! I am excited for a new challenge, but did not expect the added challenge of NO SUPPLIES to start the school year! No scissors, no rulers, no paint, no glue....nothing. I was hired for my enthusiasm and desire to incorporate exciting community-centered projects into the curriculum (this is something I love and did often at my previous school home). I want to make art relevant for these boys and change how they view art in the everyday, but I will need some supplies to make it happen!
My desire is to show these inner-city boys how capable they already are!
I plan to transport and guide them to a place of creativity while inspiring them to become leaders in their own community! Please help fill their art room with supplies!
My Project
I have never worked in a one-gender school before, but I have taught boys in the classroom for five years and know they need their hands busy to be successful in art class! I never expected to walk into the supply closet of my new job and find it to be completely and totally empty! My students will want to explore materials and learn kinesthetically by doing. I want my boys to marvel at experimenting with all kinds of mediums! This is just the beginning for what I envision to be a very full and diverse art program capable of inspiring the boys at this prepetatory school. Please consider being a part of this art program makeover!
