My Students
Each day, first graders depend on me to teach them how to read, write, and develop problem-solving skills that will be the foundation of their education. These students come from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Their families qualify for free lunch and often do not have the means to provide literature, manipulatives, and other educational tools at home. So, I feel it is my role to provide them with rich learning experiences on a day to day basis.
Due to their backgrounds and limitations in resources at home, my students often enter elementary school significantly behind their more affluent peers.
My Project
While my primary goal as a teacher is to impart knowledge and make sure students are successful in reading, math, writing, social studies, and science, I also want to teach them life skills they can use throughout their education career.
As a student progresses through middle school, high school, and college, the ability to organize materials and assignments is crucial.
Therefore, I will teach students how to use seat sacks and table caddies to keep in-class and homework assignments, as well as the various materials needed to complete these tasks organized and neat. These skills will give students the tools to become responsible for their materials.
Additionally, having student materials on hand allows valuable time to be saved in transitions so that learning is maximized.
