This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 5th-8th graders who love experiencing music through instrument performance. They choose to not only learn their instruments in small groups during the school day, but also to stay after school for an hour and a half every day so that they may rehearse as a full ensemble.

My students are passionate and dedicated about bettering themselves, both on individual instruments and as a whole ensemble.

My school district is in a low income, high needs area where all students can receive free breakfast and lunch.

My Project

Tenor saxophones are fairly large instruments, especially for middle school musicians. The standard case is incredibly bulky and heavy, making it inconvenient for transportation. I have a tenor saxophone student who uses a school-owned instrument and walks to and from school every day. Unfortunately, he has been coming to band less frequently due to having to carry the heavy case when he attends.

This student is in desperate need of a lighter, more manageable carrying case for the instrument!

The lighter case would allow the student to come to band more regularly and practice at home more often, since it would be much easier for the student to transport the instrument.

While this instrument case would directly benefit a single student, having that tenor saxophone musician in our ensemble regularly would benefit the entire band program. The student is a very talented musician whose absence is sorely felt. Additionally, the case will be available for future students in a similar situation.
