This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Writing is a large component of kindergarten and our biggest challenge. Many students come to school not even knowing how to write their name. Our goal is to get them writing proficiently so they are ready for first grade!
My group of twenty-nine kindergarteners are a lively and motivated bunch.
There are fifteen boys and fourteen girls. We are located in a low-socioeconomic area of San Diego, which has a primarily Hispanic population. We are a Title 1 school, where all students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My Project
My students need supplies such as ink cartridges, binders, and privacy boards. To help with their penmanship, we use lined paper to help them gauge how to form their letters. You can imagine we go through A LOT of paper to do this! To be more environmentally conscious and friendly, white boards are a must. Currently we have white boards that do not have lines. This makes it difficult for students to learn the proper size, shape, and spacing of their letters. We will be using these boards to help us with our writing in whole- and small-group instruction and additionally in our learning centers.
With this project getting funded, students will be able to work on their fine motor skills.
I believe they will be more successful with their writing earlier in the school year due to having this new resource in our classroom. We look forward to helping the environment and improving our writing at the same time! Thank you all for your support!!!
