My Students
Research shows that pets in the classroom aid students in their learning, help teach important life skills!
My students are very caring, both towards each other and our classroom environment.
I have a classroom filled with diversity and a variety of different needs. There are students who have parents deployed in the military, adopted from other countries, and some who have never left our zip code! As a result of these different experiences, I need universal cues for my students to be able to relate to each other and their classroom.
My Project
We are requesting the basic habitat needs for a tortoise. This tortoise would spend her days in our classroom teaching students basic skills required in caring for an animal: husbandry, respect, cleaning up, focus, and responsibility. This animal will teach my students to focus and what responsibility really means, but with a responsible adult to take on the majority of the responsibilities and safety of the animal and my students. By teaching my students the right way to care for an animal I will make a major difference to these students! We are requesting items that will help the tortoise be at her most comfortable. These include heating lamps for daytime and night time use, a clamp to hold these lights at a safe angle, bowls for food and water, cleaning supplies, and light timers.
I still remember my class pet and I am sure you do too!
I can tell you stories about her and still picture her in my fourth grade class. Help me create these memories for my incredibly deserving students!
