A typical day in my classroom involves a wide range of learning topics delivered through a wide range of teaching methods. Every student is entitled to an enriched education, but every student comes about that education in different ways. I use plenty of station learning to achieve this.
My students are 3rd graders at a fairly large school in rural West Virginia.
These kids are curious about everything, and they are very eager to learn. They are growing up in the age of technology, and the short time we have spent together this year has made it evident how much they enjoy learning through engagement with various technologies. Our school does its best to provide classrooms and students with technology for learning, but there are certain unfortunate gaps in the funding for some of these tools.
My Project
My students were so amazingly fortunate to recently receive a set of 5 Kindle Fire tablets through the incredibly generous people of DonorsChoose.org. Now, however, we would love to be able to acquire accessories to better our use of the tablets. With a set of headphones and headphone splitters, up to 10 students could be using the tablets at one time for tasks such as listening to reading, practicing reading fluency through self-recording, and interactive math learning games. The students would be engaged in partner and group work in even more ways than we originally hoped for! We also need some cases for our Kindles to extend the lives of the tablets as we practice responsible handling of them.
This project will make a difference in my classroom by giving my students opportunity to work collaboratively in an effective and responsible way.
The students will be able to share their learning with a friend, a task which enriches education in itself. These tablet accessories will expand our already huge list of possibilities for learning through the tablets.
