My Students

My school is home to 265 awesome kiddos. We are one of 8 elementary schools in our suburban, southern Illinois district. Our school district was recognized as a National District of Character in 2017 because of our outstanding families and educators. Students at my school have varied learning styles, abilities and socioeconomic backgrounds. We house nine K-6 classrooms as well as four special needs classrooms. Over 67% of our students are identified as low-income families. Many of the students also receive Operation Backpack, which provides them with supplemental food each weekend.

Our students are creative, energetic, and fun!

Some of our students suggested forming a Drama Club in the fall of 2017. A committee was formed and we presented two smaller productions in the fall along with a huge production of The Wizard of Oz in the spring of 2018. It was amazing! Excitement has spread throughout the school to be a part of the Drama Club this school year. We are now preparing to perform another big production in the spring... Peter Pan! It will include students of all ages and abilities. Thank you for helping our kids reach for the stars!

My Project

Theater is the single most valuable place where kids can explore the endless possibilities of their imaginations and what they can do. Navigating through a theater world is daydreaming in motion. It can be a wondrous and nurturing place to grow. There are many benefits of being involved. The students will enhance their creativity, practice morals, build self-esteem, learn focus, improve memory, and work together in a cooperative manner. These skills will help make them more confident, productive individuals in life.

This production of Peter Pan will be our first Drama Club play on our school's stage!

There will be constant movement on and off the stage and the curtains will cover the doorways on either side to hide our actors. The other items requested will serve as the props and costumes for the production. The fairy lights will be placed in Tinkerbell's fairy dust bag to illuminate it. The fake tattoo sleeves will be worn by one of the pirates. Our goal is to help the audience use their imaginations during our production!
