This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is located in south Los Angeles, we are a Title I campus, and most of students are on free lunch. We have a high percentage of English Language learners within each classroom.
Transitional Kindergarten is such a magical year and I absolutely love teaching it.
The goal of TK is to get kids ready for kindergarten, we focus on prereading and writing skills, number sense, but most importantly social and emotional learning.
Teaching this year virtually is going WAY better than I could have expected, we have had perfect attendance this first month! We are forming friendships and learning so much through zoom.
My Project
We are coming up on a full year of distance learning. I cannot say for sure, but it seems we will remain on distance learning for possibly the remained of this school year. I would love to provide a few extra fun and special activities to add to our remaining thematic units.
My students are looking forward to our units about Transportation and Springtime/Plants and these supplies will help so much!
These craft kits and materials will allow for families to support their child's learning in ways I cannot through zoom. Students will be able to build and decorate their own form of transportation (train, car, or plane) during our Transportation unit. Students will be given the supplies to grow their own plants during our Springtime/Plant unit. The colored construction paper packet will be a great addition to extending their learning as well. I also included one small project for students to make as a special surprise for Mother's Day. I will pass out the materials during our upcoming material pick up. Students will share their creations over zoom with their friends.
If by chance we do return to campus this school year all these supplies can be used there too and I know they will bring so much joy and learning no matter what!
