My Students

Education is the great equalizer... this is true, but having the best resources available to all students is a critical part of the truth behind this statement. All students should have access to the best materials and resources to help them succeed.

My students are determined seniors who are seeking admittance into a challenging post secondary education.

My AP class grew from 18 students last year to 42 students this year. We have been successful in growing our AP program and demonstrating to our students the value of rigorous AP classes, and the effect it will have on their admission into competitive colleges and universities. We are a high-need, low-income school with 85% students on free or reduced lunch program. My students are seeking a better life through their education and have a strong desire to be successful in all of their AP courses. Many of them want to study engineering, math and science in college and know this class will enable them to be successful in that endeavor.

My Project

My AP Calculus classes are currently using a text book that is 6 years old. That is fairly old in terms of an advanced class. As with many advanced classes, the text book needs to be supplemented with information on additional topics and activities, and our text book is no exception. The Princeton Review is a great resource for providing additional topics and problems, explanations to concepts, and an overall review. By having a book for each student, it will eliminate the problems many of my students will have funding this purchase and will allow us to start the school year off right. I plan to assign problems and reading from the book to help the students master the concepts and work together in study groups. I would like all my students to have access to the Princeton Review and plan to assign a book to each student for the school year. At the end of the year, I will retrieve the books for the next AP Calculus class; these books will be used for a number of years to come.

Growing up in an urban school system, many of our students need additional resources to become proficient and master the concepts present.

My students are very determined to succeed and have worked very hard to prepare themselves for AP Calculus. I am passionate about having the right resources for my students to be successful and giving them every opportunity to achieve their goals. By providing this book, my students will know they have support from other adults and that their success maters.
