As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many of them are being raised in single parent households. I teach at a Title I school in Virginia where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My students participate in a full-day, high-quality instructional program for preschool students identified as at risk for early academic challenges.
In my classroom we work to give these students the best possible start so that they will be successful in kindergarten and beyond. My students are loving, inquisitive, and active. They like to move and love praise.
Each Glowie classroom kit includes: Glowie mats and finger flashlights. There are so many ways these can be incorporated into my classroom. Just turn off the lights and the students write on the Glowie mats with finger flashlights. These mats are so versatile! They can be used year after year. Glowie mats are translucent so you can put anything under them. We can use them to practice writing letters, numbers, shapes, and words such as our names. My students will not even realize they are learning. The mats and flashlights will make practice fun.
These glow mats will help us strengthen our fine motor skills and practice handwriting.
