Our students come from a blend of rural and suburban communities. They are inquisitive and love new challenges. We love to give them new opportunities and they have enjoyed doing such activities as Hour of Code.
The world is rapidly changing, and students will need new skills to succeed in the workplace.
We want to update our library to give students an opportunity to interact with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) equipment. Our goal is to build our Makerspace for kids to explore these skills in a fun way.
My Project
We are working on building a makerspace to gave our students a variety of experiences.
The main goal of this particular project is for students to see how things work.
Students use a variety of items on any given day, but very rarely do they consider how those things work. This experience will foster enthusiasm in the STEM field. They will use the tools listed to take things apart and discover the inner workings of common household materials. Also, they will take the items that they deconstruct to upcycle and make something new.
We also recently built a Lego wall and our students LOVE it, but we do not have nearly enough Legos. We would love to have more Legos to make this a much richer experience.
