This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are all children with Autism. I was very lucky this year to loop-up with my class from last year. They are now first graders and I am working very hard to make them understand that they are not babies anymore. As big kids they need to increase their on-task behavior in the classroom so that they may function better as a student.
It is very difficult for first graders to sit still all day but it is nearly impossible for children with Autism to sit still all day.
The students in my class are in a Title 1 school. They come to school every day with the weight of the world on their shoulders. When they get to school I am asking them to leave all of that behind and sit down. Sounds crazy! We need help!!
My Project
I am asking for multiple wobble chairs and soft seats. These chairs and seats allow the children with Autism in my class to sit and learn but it also gives them the ability to move! I am hoping that with the help of these chairs and seats my students will be able to sit long enough to learn to read and write.
Many children with Autism have difficulty later in life because it takes them much longer to do the basics like reading and writing.
They get made fun of because they do not always have the social, sensory, or gross motor skills that are needed to function properly. Staying in their seats and learning will help to build a foundation for their futures.
By donating to my class you will be helping to improve my students futures'.
