This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students

I truly believe learning to love to read can make a huge difference in the future of our children.
My students are a diverse group: some are speaking English as a second language, some have learning disabilities, and others are achieving beyond grade level expectations. More than 94% of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Even with the obstacles they face, they are a motivated group of kids with hearts of gold.
My Project
As a teacher leader, I am helping start a new initiative at our school inspired by Manny Scott. Our population of students need to have teachers that truly understand how to REACH them and meet their needs. We are starting a new program at our school that focuses on at-risk youths and helps empower them to be successful both academically and financially. Academics need to go beyond the textbook. One of our main focuses will be financial literacy as a regular part of our group lessons. It is also important to make sure our teachers have the strategies to teach this group of children so the books will be used to ensure we have a strong core of teachers. Our school is very diverse and we need our teachers to be Culturally Responsive. The Book "Get Up or Give Up" will help with this session. The iPad chargers are to help us use our iPads effectively as educators and also assist the students in learning more financial literacy skills. There are great apps that focus on financial literacy but without power, we can't put them to use to better our students.
We want teachers to "REACH" their students and help them succeed academically and financially.
To make this program a success we need board games and multiple books. Throughout the year we will conduct book Studies and teachers will create action plans to help make this program a success!
