This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My ELL tenth grade students are all recent immigrants who are learning English as their second or third language. They are from more 20 countries and speak more than 6 different languages.
My students are amazing recent immigrants who work part-time, take care of family members, play sports and attend our after-school programs.
While our city is a hub for academia, medicine and technology, our city is also the third most expensive city in the USA. Many of my students struggle with home and food insecurity, and several are currently homeless.
My Project
All of my 10th graders take public transportation to attend our school, and many students have to take multiple buses and trains. During the winter months, this means that my students are staying out in the cold waiting for their bus or train without the proper cold weather equipment. My students need hats, gloves, and scarves to keep warm during the long and cold winter in our city.

Our school is in the third most expensive city in the United States with an average 2 bedroom apartment costing $2,800/month, and sometimes our families must spend almost their entire income just on rent. Your gift will help make the long winter livable for my students.
