My Students
I live in a low income area, and it's hard for parents to provide supplies for their children at the beginning of the school year. I'd love to provide the students with supplies this year, as I do most years, but we just endured our third pay cut in the last two years, and money is tight.
I know a lot of the students who are coming to my class this year, and they are a great group of kids.
About 40% of my class is comprised of special education children, and the rest of my class is general education. They are eager learners, and they love their school. The thing I like best about the classes I've had is that they have a lot of fun learning. They are always willing to try new things and push themselves academically.
My Project
The supplies I am asking for are pencils, erasers (because it's OK to make mistakes; we learn from them), highlighters, and dry erase markers. I plan on using the markers so students can show me their work, but not waste paper in doing so. I love to teach the kids to conserve when they can; cut down on the waste. These are very basic supplies, but having them ready for the kids will take the stress of having to purchase supplies off of them and they can focus on learning. For kids who sometimes don't have the money to buy proper standard student attire, this is a huge burden to have taken away from their families. A lot of these students also have tough home lives, and school is almost a sanctuary for them. For them to know that someone out there, someone they don't even know, cares about them and their education, that will be a huge motivation for those kids.
It is so important for this project to be funded because my students need these basic supplies to be successful this year.
By having this project funded, it will take the pressure off my students' families to purchase supplies and allow them to focus on the task at hand; reaching their full potential as students.
