This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I serve in a Title I priority middle school that services children from highest poverty with many being newly immigrated students. I teach 8th grade language arts to general education classes.
Funding in Title I schools is extremely budgeted and often holes are made in places to fill in other places that are of a higher need.
So often, the arts are one of the first things to go. I am currently completing my doctorate in education where my dissertation focuses on the importance of literacy skill sets among urban youth in preparation for career and college readiness.
I am seeking supplies to help support them in growing as independent readers in a variety of mediums including technology and media.
My Project
I am seeking items to help me to better beautify and support my classroom this fall. I teach in a very old building that has not received the kind of upkeep it has needed and us teachers are often left with finding ways to make our classrooms more cared for so that our students have a loving, clean place to learn. I am seeking supplies to help my students have a fresh, organized classroom and one where they will have the ability to print their essays and work this year so that we can decorate our room with their thoughts and words.
